Mission: To utilize harp music in clinical situations and research projects in order to ease the pain of cancer as an adjunct to standard medical intervention.
Lynette Edelson, Compassionate Harps founder, was inspired to use the harp as a therapeutic adjunct to conventional cancer treatments and pain management after the loss of her mother, Arlene Snyder, to ovarian cancer in 1993.
More
recently, Lynette’s father Ed
Snyder (view
larger photo) bravely battled
stage 4 colon cancer for 2 ½ years. Ed was
the recipient of many sessions administered by his daughter,
and enjoyed the benefits of Vibroacoustic Harp Therapy
(VAHT) and other techniques involving the harp. Having
experienced the benefits of VAHT and harp therapy first
hand, Ed became a proponent of harp therapy, and wished
for Lynette to further her knowledge and experience in
the field, that others might benefit as he had from the
live harp music.
Sadly, Ed passed away on July 3, 2008, but his brave battle serves to help others through the Compassionate Harps Cancer Pain Project, which is now named in his honor.
This
program employs the revolutionary Clinical Recliner,
a chair which is specially designed for vibroacoustic
therapy. The harp is amplified through the chair’s
four speakers, thereby saturating the therapy recipient
in sound and vibration. Its rugged modular construction
reclines to the physician recommended Trendelenburg position,
positioning the lower legs above the heart. This
posture reduces pressure on the spine, relieving muscle
tension and aiding circulation.
